Going to Vegas

As I write this, I am on a plane to Las Vegas. It seems that Delissa and I are making this into a tradition. When I say tradition, I use that term loosely, but I think that doing it two years in a row is at least a start. I am pretty sure that we will be attending next year, if we have fun this year, but I wonder a person doesn’t have fun in Vegas. It has a ton of things to do, and you can really just stay in one place without having to worry about traveling everywhere. I am sure there is more to the city than just the strip, but I doubt that I will ever see it.

I bet you are wondering why we area going to Vegas. Well, there is a photography conference called WPPI that we are attending, and it is a great place to learn new things. The only thing that I really remember from last year is all of the walking, and I mean we were walking miles a day. My legs were pretty sore from it, but it was a whole lot of fun to be on a trip with Delissa. I have been jogging about 15-20 miles a week lately so this walking should be a breeze. I hope that I don’t regret writing that. I will have to update this to let you know how it goes.

Either way, we are staying at the Planet Hollywood Towers, and I am looking forward to it. I hope that they have an early check-in or something. Delissa and I are both really tired. We had to get up at 3:40. Plus, Andrew was up most of the night it seemed. It kept coming into our room acting like it was 8 AM, and that we should be up as well. In the end, I think that we got about 3:30 hours of sleep total. Delissa has been sleeping on me the whole time (She would tell you something else though)!

I will be putting pictures up of us seeing the sights when we actually get there!

Republican Candidates…

To start this post, I would like to say that I do not like talking about politics. They are a topic that I am not deeply interested in, and I don’t think that it is too important in the scheme of things. With the government setup as it is, there is no real power given to a President, and I believe that the politicians in the Congress and Senate will prevent him from doing more than he should be able to. After saying this, the Republican presidential nominees are a joke this year, and it is hard to believe that they could not pull together and find one candidate who had a decent chance at winning this election.

For the first time in my life, I think that I might be changing my views politically. After the candidates that have shown up for the Republicans this year, I don’t think that I want to be considered Republican. My whole life I have thought that I was, but the people that we are choosing to lead our party are at best a joke to me. To be honest, I thought that a Republican would take office after this election based on the poor performance of Obama, but it seems that we are essentially guaranteeing his re-election.

The two front runners, Romney and Gingrich, are so disconnected from everyday Americans that they have no clue what we need as a people. When you make bets of $10,000 and hand out cash to poor people, you are not understanding what the issues are. For most people, the only thing that is a concern to them is financial stability, and it is hard for me to believe that you are stable when you hand out money freely. Sure, they have a lot of money to give out, but it doesn’t make it the right thing to do. In all honesty, Romney could have opened a restaurant to give people jobs, and I might have thought that was a decent idea.

For the Republican side, it has turned into who has the most money. I think that Romney wins this game. I am sure that he will get the party’s backing at the end of all of this, but does he really stand a chance at winning? Whenever I see him, I think younger Bob Barker, and I don’t think that is a good thing. A lot of people are calling him a robot, and the jokes about someone changing his batteries are constantly popping up on the internet. It is hard to relate to someone with the gestures that are so robotic.

With Gingrich, you can’t get past his past. The fact that he is a career politician really bothers me. There is no telling how much money he has made from lobbyists trying to persuade him to one side of the fence, and the multiple extra-marital affairs don’t help his casue. Plus, the first name is not one of a leader. I know that sounds immature, but it is true. When I hear the name ‘Newt’, I go through a series of connections. Newts are similar to lizards, and lizards are close to snakes, and I don’t want a snake as the president. I can just imagine what plans he has waiting in the wings to spring on the people.

That’s enough for my rant about the Republicans this year. I think that we had a good shot to reclaim the White House, but our lack of ability to find a good candidate has really ruined that chance. I am pretty sure that we are handing the election to the Democrats. It hasn’t been that bad for the past 4 years, but I don’t think that I am ready for another 4. In the end though, the candidates for the Republican party would probably to a worse job than the current regime.
